Mindfulness Week Day Five: silly walking

An old photo of me from 2011 with my arms up and out from my sides, pretending to be a beetle with my wing shields up so I can fly. Obviously.

Channel your inner John Cleese and do a silly walk as you move around the house! That’s what this mindfulness practice is modelled on. It’s really hard to think about the past or the future when you’re walking like this!

Do you remember Miranda Hart’s TV show, Miranda? She was fond of a gallop and I can see why! It feels hilarious and really lifts your mood. The Mindfulness on the Go cards quote a Buddhist master, Shonin, who said that ‘we humans are “foolish and ignorant beings’. When we behave silly on purpose we realise this and snap out of our obsessive preoccupation with ourselves, we take a bigger view of life and our problems seem less. We can change the focus of our minds and stop negative thoughts by something as simple as a silly walk.

But the only way to know this is true is to give it a go. Go on. Hop, skip, gallop. Have a go. 😀
